Why do we need poverty solutions?
ON A NATIONAL LEVEL
- As of 2015, more than 43 million people live below the poverty line in the United States. Of those, 14.5 million were children. **
- This problem hits close to home: 40% of the residents of Flint and Detroit live in poverty. More than half of this population are children. *
- Many families who are following the current path our nation has laid out for upward mobility are making no headway, and in some cases doing worse.
Much work and more knowledge is needed to effectively address these issues. Poverty Solutions focus on action-based research with community partners is helping to inform and test strategies for the prevention and alleviation of poverty.
