Professor Laura Gultekin has conducted community-engaged research with families experiencing homelessness and housing stability and their service providers for the past eight years, working to understand the experiences and needs of this vulnerable and underserved population in order to develop evidence based prevention strategies and policy that reduces the risk of homelessness among families navigating poverty and resource inequities. She is committed to working with community partners in Detroit to develop sustainable solutions to ease the causes and consequences of homelessness and housing instability. Dr. Gultekin’s research utilizes qualitative approaches to uncover and address the complex life trajectories that make families vulnerable to housing instability and its associated negative health consequences. In addition to her research, Dr. Gultekin volunteers as a Family Nurse Practitioner at a clinic for individuals and families without health insurance in Ypsilanti, MI. She is the Suzanne Bellinger Feetham professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing.
