Summary
U-M was an active partner in the local Washtenaw County Summer Youth Employment Program called SummerWorks.
The University of Michigan's Poverty Solutions was an active partner in SummerWorks, which paired local employers with young adults ages 16-24 for a 10-week summer employment and mentorship program. SummerWorks also provided professional development sessions to help youth build professional networks, explore career opportunities, and develop essential job and leadership skills.
The program launched in 2016 as a partnership between MichiganWorks! Southeast and Washtenaw County's Office of Community and Economic Development. In 2017, the University of Michigan joined the partnership to provide employment opportunities across the university. Poverty Solutions staff managed SummerWorks from 2017 to 2026.
