Katherine W. Bauer
Katherine (Kate) W. Bauer is an epidemiologist whose research focuses on the prevention of childhood obesity, which severely disproportionately impacts children in poverty. Much of her work focuses on the role of families in children’s and adolescents’ obesity risk. She studies the role of parenting in childhood nutrition and obesity from the perspective of how persistent poverty impacts parents’ ability to engage in effective parenting practices for obesity prevention. Further, Dr. Bauer has several studies examining the effects of school and childcare policies and practices on nutrition and weight among low income students.
