Rebecca Hasson

Associate Professor in the Schools of Kinesiology and Public Health and Director of the Childhood Disparities Research Laboratory

Dr. Hasson’s research broadly focuses on the complex causes and consequences of racial/ethnic disparities in obesity and obesity-related metabolic complications among children and adolescents. More specifically, I am interested in understanding why these disparities exist by examining the interrelationships between socioeconomic, behavioral and biological factors that contribute to metabolic health disparities in African American, Latino and non-Latino white youth. In addition, Dr. Hasson’s research aims to reduce disparities in multiethnic pediatric populations through the design and implementation of behavioral interventions. With multidisciplinary training in exercise physiology, energy metabolism, pediatric endocrinology, health disparities, and social epidemiology, she possesses a unique set of skills and experience to examine the complex problem of metabolic health disparities in pediatric populations.
